Middle School AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Teacher/Coach for the 2024–2025 school year. 

Position Overview

The AVID elective teacher plays a key role in building a college-going culture through rigorous instruction, high expectations, and strong relationships. This role is ideal for an educator who is committed to helping students build academic skills, personal confidence, and a vision for their future.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead with Vision: Design and implement a high-quality AVID elective course that prepares students for college and career success.
• Build a College-Going Culture: Collaborate with AVID students, parents, counselors, the District AVID Director, and teachers to promote a strong college and career readiness mindset.
• Maintain High Expectations: Establish a culture of academic excellence and high achievement for all AVID students.
• Monitor Progress: Collect and analyze student data to track academic performance and growth, providing timely interventions and support.
• Promote Rigorous Learning: Advocate for AVID students’ enrollment and success in advanced coursework.
• Implement WICOR Strategies: Teach and model Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR) strategies across all content areas.
• Collaborate with Tutors: Work closely with AVID tutors to ensure effective implementation of the AVID tutorial process.
• Support Campus Goals: Perform additional duties as assigned to support student achievement and school initiatives.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
• Valid Texas teaching certificate
• Strong understanding of AVID strategies and philosophy (preferred, training will be provided)
• Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills
• Commitment to fostering a growth mindset and supporting all students in achieving success
