JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Director of Maintenance/Transportation
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
JOB GOAL/PRIMARY PURPOSE: To oversee the operations of the Maintenance and Transportation Departments and provide students, employees and the community with a safe, secure, clean and comfortable environment in which to learn, play, and work and to provide a safe and efficient transportation system ensuring the safety of all riders.
QUALIFICATIONS: INCLUDING EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of High School Diploma.
Valid Criminal History Records Check approval.
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups, including parents, and various school and department staff.
Ability to provide leadership and supervise personnel in accordance with district policy, and state and federal mandates.
Supervisory or management experience with prior experience in the areas of planning and maintaining physical plants preferred.
Knowledge of bus standards, repair and maintenance procedures preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of the basic principles of construction, maintenance, safety and security pertaining to school facilities.
Knowledge of proper handling of hazardous materials including asbestos management and maintaining Safety and Material Safety Data Sheets and environmental regulations.
Knowledge of operation and maintenance of all the heating and cooling systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Management/Supervision
- Manages and supervises Maintenance and Transportation programs and staff.
- Screens, selects, trains, assigns and disciplines custodial and transportation personnel.
- Maintains positive and effective communication with school personnel and students.
- Is responsible for mandatory OSHA safety training.
- Is responsible for annual evaluations of custodial and transportation department staff.
- Maintains evaluation and training records pertaining to staff.
- Monitors time sheets of Transportation and Custodial staff.
- Is responsible for emergency calls pertaining to buildings and transportation.
- Maintains safety standards to conform to state and insurance regulations.
- Transportation
- Conforms to all school transportation policies as well as state and federal laws regarding school transportation.
- Oversees all aspects of transporting the district’s students and the maintenance and operations of the district’s bus fleet.
- Keeps Superintendent and Principals informed of new or ongoing issues or problems related to transportation of students.
3. Maintenance
- Oversees schedules and procedures for the regular, ongoing custodial and maintenance care of all buildings.
- Inspects buildings on a regular basis for needed maintenance and repair and to determine that high standards of workmanship, cleanliness, safety and security are maintained.
- Establishes and recommends priorities on repair projects.
- Budget
- Supervises the purchases, maintenance, financial planning and budget for all transportation and maintenance functions.
- Other
- Participates in meetings as required by the Board, Superintendent, and Principals in reference to student transportation and facilities maintenance.
- Sits on applicable committees as required.
- Undertakes other duties as requested by Superintendent and Board.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year determined by experience and qualifications.
