X• Academy is seeking a mission-aligned and skilled Head Girls Junior High Basketball Coach to support the development of our student-athletes and serve as a direct extension of the Varsity Girls Basketball program. This is a foundational role focused on preparing junior high athletes to thrive within a competitive, values-driven high school environment.

Rather than leading an isolated team, this coach will work shoulder-to-shoulder with our Varsity Head Coach to ensure continuity in training, team culture, and long-term program goals. You will play a critical role in shaping the pipeline of athletes who will carry our basketball legacy forward.

This position does not require a teaching role and is ideal for a coach passionate about youth development, mentorship, and team culture.

Position Details:

Schedule:

• Junior High season runs October–December

• Practices 2–3 times per week

• 10–15 game schedule, including local tournaments and scrimmages

• Optional participation in off-season development leagues and camps

Location:

• Based in Abilene, TX

• Practices and games held at X• Academy partner facilities

Compensation:

• $1,500 Stipend for the season

• Additional earning opportunities available through off-season camps, clinics, and development sessions

Staffing & Oversight:

• Reports to the Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach

• Collaborates closely with the Athletic Director and Varsity staff

• May oversee assistant or volunteer coaches for junior high team

• Supports coordination with the Lil’ Bison elementary leagues

Key Responsibilities:

• Coach the Junior High Girls team with excellence in preparation, discipline, and sportsmanship

• Reinforce the philosophy, play style, and standards set by the Varsity program

• Identify and develop future varsity players by teaching fundamentals and work ethic

• Maintain consistent communication with families, the Varsity Coach, and the Athletics Department

• Promote character, teamwork, and leadership in every aspect of coaching

• Support varsity games and events when possible as part of a united program approach

• Basketball coach with experience in youth or middle school levels

• Committed to building long-term athlete development pipelines

• Strong communicator and relationship builder
