Job Title:  Writing Interventionist                                   Exemption Status:  Teacher

Reports to: Campus Principal                                          Education Dept./School: District

Collaborates with: Principals, Instructional Coaches, Teachers, Assistant Superintendent

Job Summary:

The Writing Interventionist plays a key role in supporting students who are performing below grade level in writing. This position focuses on delivering targeted, research-based interventions to help students improve their writing skills, including grammar, structure, organization, and writing across genres. The ideal candidate is passionate about literacy, skilled in differentiated instruction, and committed to student growth and success.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver small-group and one-on-one writing instruction for students in need of targeted support, to include reading instruction.
  • Assess students' writing skills using formal and informal assessments to identify specific needs.
  • Design and implement data-driven intervention plans aligned with grade-level writing standards.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, instructional coaches, and support staff to ensure cohesive instructional practices.
  • Track and analyze student progress regularly and adjust interventions as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student growth, intervention strategies, and communication with families.
  • Support school-wide literacy initiatives and provide professional development when appropriate.
  • Stay current on best practices and evidence-based strategies in writing instruction and intervention.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities related to writing instruction and intervention.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about their child’s progress and provide strategies to support writing at home.
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Literacy, or a related field
  • ESL Certification
  • A Valid teaching certification is required.
  • Experience with progress monitoring and data analysis
  • Previous experience teaching writing and/or providing academic intervention services.(at least 3 years)
  • Strong understanding of writing development and the writing process across grade levels.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in using formative and summative assessments to inform instruction.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student learning and success.
  • Experience with writing intervention programs or curriculum (e.g. Six Traits, Writer’s Workshop, Writing Revolution, Step up to Writing)
  • Background in working with English Language Learners or students with learning differences
  • Familiarity with MTSS/RTI framework and data-based decision-making.
