Job Title: STEM Designer/Teacher Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Principal Pay Grade: Pay Step

Primary Purpose: 

Responsible for leading a STEM-centric and PBL-focused classroom, aligned to our state standards, where learners are actively working with a spirit of inquiry to understand the process of Engineering and Design. Enable students to develop 21st century competencies and skills to function successfully in society. 

Qualifications: 

Education/Certification: 

Bachelor's degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned 

Special Knowledge/Skills: 

Knowledge of subjects assigned
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Strong interest in STEM related subjects and 21st Century Skills
Demonstrate knowledge and application of effective STEM education principles, practices and trends (PBL, Digital) 

Experience: 

At least one year student teaching or approved internship Strong interest in STEM related subjects and 21st Century Skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional Strategies: 

  1. Plan and implement a focused and balanced curriculum for each learner. 
  2. Implement the Engineering Design Process and STEM-centric lesson design; fulfilling the 

requirements of district’s STEM curriculum program and show written evidence of 

preparation as required. 

  1. Use and design authentic PBL’s/inquiry-based units embedded into curriculum 

frameworks. 

  1. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in learning styles. 
  2. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, 

board policies, and administrative regulations. 

  1. Utilize assessment data to differentiate curriculum & instructional practices to help 

learners meet school performance standards: common formative assessment. 

  1. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for 

special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education 

Plans (IEP). 

  1. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and 

methods according to district requirements. 

  1. Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s). 
  2. Use 21st century skills, technology and makerspaces to strengthen the teaching/learning 

process. 

  1. Exhibit mastery and enthusiasm for STEM based instruction. 
  2. Implement best practices—interdisciplinary approach and real world authenticity. 

Student Growth and Development: 

  1. Help learners analyze and improve study methods, habits, and track their own data. 
  2. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal 

testing. 

  1. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities 

approved by the campus principal. 

  1. Be a positive role model for learners, support mission of school district. 
  2. Reteach, spiral, change daily instruction to meet learner needs. 
  3. Assist in ongoing development of rubrics, formative assessments, STEM curriculum, and 

PBL. 

  1. Play an integral role in ensuring learner success through the support of STEM culture, 

the development and instruction of an advanced academic curriculum, and use of data to 

drive daily practice. 

  1. Design learner centered environment that meets outcomes of the STEM based 

curriculum and aligned to state standards. 

Learning Environment Management and Organization: 

  1. Create a flexible environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. 
  2. Manage learner behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. 
  3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect learners, equipment, materials, and facilities. 
  4. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. 

Communication: 

  1. Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, learners, principals, and teachers. 
  2. Work as a leader and member of a team through cooperation and collaboration. 
  3. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, learners, parents, and community 

members. 

  1. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. 

Other: 

  1. Devote necessary time and energy required to master the craft of teaching at a STEM Academy. 
  2. Open to using innovative approaches to teaching and receiving feedback from colleagues, school administration, and coaches/consultants. 
  3. Actively participate in PLCs to promote your own professional growth. 
  4. Commit to being a model learner in the school; learner first, then designer. 
  5. Commit to ongoing and specialized trainings to improve job-related skills. 
  6. Present/participate at campus, district, state and national competitions/conferences. 
  7. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for 

STEM classroom teachers/designers. 

  1. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other 

documents required. 

  1. Other duties as assigned. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

Supervise assigned teacher aide(s). 

Working Conditions: 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: 

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
