Director of Operations

 

Reports To: Rector

Status: Full Time

 

Position Summary:

The Director of Operations is a key leadership role responsible for managing the church's operational, financial, and administrative functions. This person works closely with the Rector, Vestry, staff, and volunteers to ensure effective stewardship of church resources and facilities.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  1. Administrative & Operational Leadership
  • Oversee the daily administrative functions of the church.
  • Supervise administrative staff and volunteers.
  • Implement and maintain church policies and procedures.
  • Support clergy and ministry leaders with logistical and operational needs.
  • Ensure compliance with Episcopal Church policies and local/state regulations.

 

  1. Financial Oversight
  • Work with the Treasurer, Finance Committee, and Vestry to manage the church budget.
  • Oversee payroll, bookkeeping, and financial reporting.
  • Manage vendor contracts and relationships.
  • Ensure proper handling of donations and stewardship records.

 

  1. Facility & Property Management
  • Oversee the maintenance and security of church buildings and grounds.
  • Coordinate repairs, renovations, and routine maintenance.
  • Manage rental agreements for church facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and insurance policies.

 

  1. Human Resources & Staff Supervision
  • Manage hiring, onboarding, and HR policies for church employees.
  • Oversee performance reviews and staff development.
  • Ensure a positive and productive workplace environment.



  1. Event Planning & Logistics
  • Support planning and execution of church events, meetings, and programs in coordination with the Facilities Team.
  • Coordinate logistics for worship services, special events, and community outreach.
  • Ensure facilities and resources are available for church ministries.

 

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in operations, finance, HR, or facilities management (preferably in a church or nonprofit setting).
  • Familiarity with Episcopal Church structure and governance (preferred but not required).
  • Proficiency in financial management software, Microsoft Office, and church management systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and volunteers.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the Episcopal Church.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, nonprofit management, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in operations, administration, or financial management.
  • Church or nonprofit experience is highly desirable.
