We are seeking a passionate, skilled, and student-centered Band Director to join our team for the 2025-2026 school year. This role is perfect for a dynamic educator ready to guide students in their musical development and leadership skills, while fostering a love for performance and teamwork.

Position Overview
The Band Director will direct and manage the instrumental music and band programs at the high school level. The position includes responsibilities for extracurricular and performance-based activities, as well as fostering a culture of excellence in both music and academic achievement. This role provides the opportunity for an educator to inspire students while helping them excel in both their musical and academic pursuits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and Manage the Band Program: Oversee the marching band, concert band, orchestra, and soloists. Ensure student participation in various extracurricular performances such as concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and UIL events.
  • Develop and Implement Curriculum: Design and deliver engaging lessons that meet district standards and align with student needs. Ensure accommodations are made for students with special needs, working alongside special education teachers.
  • Monitor Student Progress: Use formal and informal assessments to monitor student performance, provide feedback, and track academic and musical growth.
  • Foster Student Growth and Development: Be a positive role model for students, helping them develop both musically and personally. Support students’ academic and emotional growth through music.
  • Classroom Management: Create an environment conducive to learning and personal development. Manage student behavior according to district policies and procedures.
  • Communication: Maintain open and professional communication with students, parents, colleagues, and the community.
  • Budget and Inventory Management: Oversee the budget for the band program, manage funds responsibly, and maintain an inventory of instruments and equipment.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching and band program management skills.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Support the recruitment, training, and evaluation of assistant band directors and band staff.

Qualifications

  • Education and Certification:

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
    • Valid Texas teaching certificate
    • Competency in instrumental music (band directing experience preferred)

  • Special Knowledge/Skills:

    • Knowledge of instrumental music program operations and state/UIL policies
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to manage program budgets and staff effectively
    • Ability to interpret data for program improvement

  • Experience:

    • Prior band directing experience or approved internship

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Motion: Frequent walking/marching
  • Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (15–44 pounds); may lift and move musical instruments
  • Environment: Work outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures (hot, cold, and inclement weather), humidity, and prolonged sunlight; work on uneven or slippery surfaces; frequent exposure to noise
  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district and statewide travel
