Communities In Schools of the Big Country is seeking an experienced Executive Director who has a passion for helping at-risk students, is effective at managing organizational systems, and is capable of leading people.

Who We Are

Communities In Schools of the Big Country (CIS) is a student success organization that provides student success coaching to help at-risk students improve their school performance in the areas of Attendance, Academics, and Behavior.  Our overall goal is to help every student achieve success in school, graduate from high school, and be prepared for college, work, and life.   

CIS Big Country has been serving students in the Abilene area since 2001. We have a staff of 20 passionate people who work with over 1,000 students per year across 3 school districts and 10 school campuses. 

The Position

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the organization ensuring that all areas are functioning effectively and efficiently. 

Essential Responsibilities

General Management

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to provide overall strategic leadership and vision for the organization.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and execute Strategic and Annual Operations Plans.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to establish and maintain a set of Personnel Policies & Procedures and Fiscal Management Policies.
  • Ensure that all staff and volunteers are working in compliance with the Personnel Policies & Procedures and Fiscal Management Policies.
  • Ensure that all staff are working together as a team to meet all objectives set forth in the Strategic and Annual Operations Plans.
  • Manage human resources to accomplish all organizational goals and objectives through effective recruiting, hiring, evaluating, training, and mentoring.
  • Maintain all personnel files.
  • Facilitate processes for annual performance reviews to be conducted on all staff.
  • Function as a liaison between the organization, National CIS, TEA, Region 14 ESC, school district partners, community partners, grantors, and other relevant entities.
  • Ensure that all staff have adequate office space, supplies, technology, and training sufficient for doing their work effectively and efficiently.

Student Services

  • Ensure that effective student services are provided at all times (school year, after school, and summer).

Board Relations

  • Promote active participation and engagement from all Board Members.
  • Maintain professional and collaborative relationships with all Board Members.
  • Meet regularly with the Board President to provide updates on the overall operation of the organization.
  • Ensure that all Board Committees are functioning effectively and efficiently and meeting regularly.

Business Development

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with partner organizations, donors, corporations, and government entities.
  • Set funding formulas for establishing partnerships with school districts.
  • Work to establish official MOU partnerships with new school districts.

Fundraising

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive annual Strategic Fundraising Plan.
  • Secure revenue through various funding sources.
  • Continually explore and identify new ways to develop additional revenue streams.
  • Secure new grants that align with the mission of the organization.
  • Execute campus donation requests (cash and gift cards).
  • Manage CRM, invoicing, fundraising, and donor software systems.
  • Maintain high levels of engagement with key stakeholders.
  • Ensure that donor recognition is executed regularly, effectively, and efficiently.

Marketing

  • Function as the lead spokesperson for the organization during all public events and in all media related areas.
  • Ensure that newsletters and annual reports are developed and distributed to key stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that all community events are successfully planned and executed.

 

Fiscal Management Policies

  • Manage all financial resources used to advance the mission of the organization.
  • Set annual budgets that ensure that all areas of the organization are adequately funded to function effectively and efficiently.
  • Operate within the budget approved by the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure that Fiscal Management Policies are followed and in compliance with National CIS, TEA, and Region 14 ESC.

Reporting & Evaluation

  • Ensure that appropriate reports are provided to all partners and grantors in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that the organization successfully meets all standards set forth by National CIS, TEA, or any other evaluating body.
  • Provide regular operational reports to the Board of Directors.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Organizational Development, Non-Profit Management & Leadership, Business, or Social Work preferred
  • Three or more year’s experience in non-profit leadership and/or fundraising preferred
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong management and organizational skills
  • Able to work independently, meet deadlines, have the ability to multi-task, possess innovative and creative problem-solving abilities, be resourceful and function as an effective team member
  • Valid Texas driver’s license and proof of vehicle liability insurance
