Job Title: Behavior Specialist starting with the 2025-2026 SY (August 2025)
Department: Special Education / Section 504
Reports To: Executive Director of Special Education/Section 504

Position Overview:

The Behavior Specialist supports students, staff, and families by developing and implementing behavioral strategies and intervention plans that foster student success in educational settings. This role focuses on promoting positive behavior, reducing challenging behaviors, and supporting inclusive practices aligned with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and district-wide goals.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) based on data and observations.

  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to implement and monitor behavior plans.

  • Provide training and coaching for staff on behavior management strategies and positive behavior supports (PBIS).

  • Assist in crisis prevention and intervention planning; support de-escalation procedures as needed.

  • Collect, analyze, and report behavioral data to monitor student progress and adjust interventions.

  • Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions regarding behavioral supports.

  • Consult with mental health professionals, school psychologists, and outside agencies when appropriate.

  • Support the implementation of district-wide behavior support frameworks.

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, including IDEA and Section 504, related to behavior services.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education / Psychology / Special Education / Behavioral Science / Social Work / or related field

  • Experience working with school-aged children with behavioral needs, including students with disabilities

  • Strong knowledge of PBIS, RTI/MTSS frameworks, and behavioral data collection

Preferred:

  • Experience in a public school or educational setting

  • Training in the area of Applied Behavior Analyst/Certification as a Registered ABA/ or Certified as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Licensed Behavior Specialist, or equivalent
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or similar certification

Working Conditions:

  • Travel between school sites within the CoOp districts

  • Frequent interaction with students with behavioral and emotional challenges

  • May involve physical intervention in emergency situations
