This position has been reopened because the principal has taken a superintendent position and the Dean of Students has been promoted to Secondary Principal.


Primary Purpose:

Responsible for overseeing the academic program, under the direction of the campus principal, to ensure sound implementation of curriculum and staff development to improve student achievement; act as campus behavioral coordinator; act as district testing coordinator


Education/Certification:                     Master’s degree in educational administration

Certificates:                                               Valid Texas principal

Additional Requirements

Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Management

  • Assist the school principal with the overall administration of the instructional program at the campus level and coordinate assigned student activities and services.
  • Provide leadership in the identification, evaluation, and selection of instructional programs, resources, and equipment for increased student achievement.
  • Facilitate improved student performance through the professional growth of teachers and staff as measured by course work and assessment data.
  • Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate. Participate in program evaluation measures and make suggestions for improvement where needed.
  • Provide quality instructional support and feedback on the instructional effectiveness of the campus.
  • Reinforce expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies and classroom management.
  • Work with the principal to develop and implement the master schedule.
  • Assist in designing and providing professional development based on data analysis and campus needs.
  • Meet regularly with academic department heads and assistant principals to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum.
  • Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in decision-making process.
  • Manage Response to Intervention (RTI) programs including assisting with the identification of at-risk students and coordinating early intervention strategies.

School Improvement

  • Plan and coordinate tutorials, interventions, additional support and resources, and other instructional programs for students in need of assistance.
  • Facilitate and assist with the development of an effective campus improvement plan based on student needs.
  • Ensure that student progress is evaluated on a regular, systematic basis and that the findings are used to make instructional programs and services more effective.
  • Participate in development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
  • Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain records and track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.

Student Management

  • Act as campus behavioral coordinator in accordance with state laws and regulations.
  • Work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly applied, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
  • Ensure that students are adequately supervised during noninstructional periods.
  • Assist students in developing personal graduation plans, track student academic progress, and assist in developing student schedules.

Personnel Management

  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences. Serve as second appraiser as needed for designated teacher appraisal system.
  • Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.


Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

  • Oversee campus operations in principal’s absence.
  • Oversee reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with staff to identify and address issues.

School and Community Relations

  • Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers.
  • Increase awareness of the school's guidelines and expectations for student learning and achievement among students, staff, and parents.
  • Articulate the school’s mission to community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.


  • Implement procedures for ensuring security and confidentiality of state-mandated testing programs and other assessments. Direct and oversee test implementation and monitor testing activities to ensure that procedures are followed, and deadlines met.
  • Provide timely support for testing administrators.
  • Consult with staff to provide appropriate testing accommodation for Limited English Proficient (LEP) students and students receiving special services.
  • Identify, investigate, and address testing irregularities. Report discrepancies and disciplinary actions taken against students as required.
  • Maintain and ensure integrity of testing data. Ensure all materials and data are submitted within established timelines.
  • Complete evaluation and compliance reports as required by federal and state programs.
  • Track and monitor location of test materials throughout the distribution, return, and storage process.
  • Compile, maintain, file, and secure all reports, records, and other required documents.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of training for district and campus test administrators to ensure that tests are conducted, and procedures are consistently followed.


  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and firing of assigned staff assigned including teachers and paraprofessionals.
  • Direct the work of district and campus test administrators and others assigned to conduct tests.
